Week 2: Social Media



         Social media is a big part of our society. Some of the most popular ones would include: Facebook, Instagram, Tweeter, and Snapchat. Snapchat is one of the social media platforms that is gear towards personal use. Snapchat app only allows stories to be viewed for 24 hours then it disappears. The main characteristics of Snapchat is not suitable for business because businesses should be wanting to leave a longer lasting impression. If a business uses Snapchat to advertise and market, they would not be able to show that message to people other then their followers on Snapchat. Even with the new upgrade, someone can't search for your business unless you are in the area. Then you might be able to have a filter that mentions your business's name,but it does not have the option to follow your business's Snapchat account if you were to have one. In order for Snapchat to be beneficial for getting new customers or showing your new product, you would need to had share the business's Snap code with all your customer's in hopes that they follow you. This would take a lot of extra work on your part in order to get a good group of followers via Snapchat.
       A social media platform that are more suitable for business's would be Instagram and Facebook. These platforms are business friendly because a user can search for your business's name or even location! Facebook has business friendly pages where you are able to add business hours, location, phone number, pictures, advertising posts, reviews, and contacting information. Facebook is one of the best social media platforms because it has the largest amounts of monthly active users. Many Facebook users love to show their friends where they are at by checking in through the Facebook posts. This is a great way to reach new customers because if a person like the business, the chances of someone in their friends or family liking it would be very high since they probably share common interests. Facebook is a key tool for a business because of all the ways people can stumble upon your business page weather it be by a picture, review, or a shared post. Instagram is also a nice way to reach out potential customers because of the hashtag search bar. A business can add a picture and add as many hashtags to be able to "fish" for customer's that would potentially find their business interesting. Instagram has a place for in the business bio that allows you to have a link to your website.
     Facebook is a social media platform that seems to work well for personal and business use. The other social media's have the potential;however, they are not as well rounded as Facebook. Someone who has a personal Facebook page would use Facebook to keep up with their family and friend's where about. A business who has Facebook would use its page to tell their customer's information, advertisement, or maybe a upcoming event.  A personal Facebook page you are able to talk about or share anything of your interests that could be argumentative and controversial where as a business Facebook page is more about information of their business.

  3. Hi Nancy!

    I definitely agree on your thought about Snapchat being one of the hardest social media platforms to use, for business. It would take a lot more work to build a following on there than the other popular sites. It is interesting though I have seen some people utilize it as a form of promotion but I think sticking to a site like Facebook is, undoubtedly, the easiest way. Really good post! :)
